In its short history, Century City has achieved international prestige for business, shopping, dining, theatergoing, guest accommodations and luxury living.  That’s a long way since 1958 when it debuted as a mere backlot for the 20th Century Fox film studio. Although between Beverly Hills and Westwood, Century City is no longer dwarfed by the two.  In fact its numerous modern high-rises have made it into a mini-metropolis, sort of a second downtown Los Angeles.

There are an amazing 10 million square feet of office space within its 175 acres.  The Plaza Towers are an example of the city’s strong, clean architecture.  However, more than 60% of the land is landscaped but not built upon, making for a refreshing, open-air atmosphere.  There is a compelling cleanliness about Century City that bespeaks its well-planned layout, something most Los Angeles neighborhoods missed out on with their patchwork designs. While true that Disney moved its West Coast ABC headquarters to Burbank, all other entertainment-related institutions remain.  These include the Fox headquarters and the Shubert Theatre, which presents hit Broadway shows.

There are also multiplex cinemas, nightclubs and the Century City Shopping Centre and Marketplace.  More than three-dozen restaurants, from casual to five-star, cover the spectrum of tastes and cuisines.  All of this easily accommodates the luxury lifestyle many Angelenos seek. It is said that Century City is home of the valet parking. Recently, Santa Monica Boulevard was widened, making the ingress/egress to and from Century City a lot easier.  Because the real estate model is one of urban intensification, rather than suburban sprawl, it is the condominium that dominates housing.

What could be more fitting for a young entertainment executive or other professional than a penthouse Century City condo a stone’s throw from the office or studio?
