[MONTREAL, CANADA]

One of North America's renowned Grande Dames is going to have some radical nip & tuck to make her even more ravishing than ever before. Montreal's crown jewel of hotels, the opulent Ritz-Carlton is set to invest over $100 million in renovations to the prestigious building. The goal is to maintain the highest world standards of luxury, elegance and comfort that the hotel has become synonymous with.

"This major project will ensure that the heritage of this iconic Montreal edifice will continue, while adding a new architectural dimension that will enable it to meet the highest international standards for luxury hotels and residences," said Solly S. Lawi, chairman of the board of the Ritz-Carlton Montreal.

Montreal architectural firm Provencher Roy & associes has been commissioned to complete the alterations, which will see the hotel's current 229 rooms and suites modified into 130 rooms and suites, 35 magnificent condo residences and 15 beautiful condo suites. Work will commence in the winter of 2008 and should be completed in 15 months.

The building's facade will be completely preserved including interior features such as the Lobby, Palm Court, Oval Room and the renowned garden. A new residential wing constructed with stylish glass and steel on the west side of the structure and roof will enhance the original character of the building without being obtrusive.

Andrew Torriani, general manager of the Ritz-Carlton Montreal, stated that highlighting and preserving the heritage and architectural elements of the hotel were the top priorities. "For almost a century Montrealers have loved and cherished the Ritz and we wanted to safeguard its character while bringing it in line with current worldwide standards for luxury hotels," said Torriani.

The hotel was launched in 1912 as a symbol of sophisticated elegance in the heart of Montreal's elite business district known as the Golden Square Mile. Over the years it has played host to some of the world's most distinguished leaders and entertainers from Queen Elizabeth II to The Rolling Stones. Once its new face-lift and modern additions are complete the building will boast the unique charms of its historical heritage while offering definitive comfort and state-of-the-art design.

"Our choice of a bold and modern new wing distinguishes itself from the present building, while maintaining harmony between the two and is in keeping with the principles of the International Charter for Conservation and Restoration of Monuments and Sites (Venice Charter). It also meets with the recommendations of a heritage study by the Ritz-Carlton Montreal that was supervised by Jean-Claude Marsan," said project architect Claude Provencher.

Residents will savor one of the city's true architectural, historical and important landmarks. They will have the opportunity to experience the ultimate in luxurious living quarters nestled in the heart of one of North America's premiere cities and travel destinations.

"These residences will attract prestigious clients from both home and abroad and will raise the profiles of the Ritz-Carlton and Montreal as principal destinations," said Torriani.

Given the prominent reputation of the Ritz-Carlton Montreal for its luxury, comfort and impeccable services it will not be hard to imagine that these condo units will sell rather quickly. The living doesn't get much better than at the Ritz.
