Gardening In Condos

One of the reasons why condo living is so appealing to many people is that the outdoor maintenance of the home is taken care of. Part of the homeowners association dues that you pay each month go toward hiring a professional landscaping crew in order to take care of such routine chores as cutting the lawn and maintaining the plants. For many people this is one of the benefits of condo living; however, there are those of us who have green thumbs and might worry about what they can do to garden when all of the outside space is considered common space.

The reality of the situation is that it depends on your particular condo unit. There are actually some condo associations that reserve certain areas of the common space for condo owners to be able to take care of their own gardens. Another good option is to start an indoor garden based in hydroponics or windowsills. If there are no common spaces for you to garden at your condominium unit, it might be a good idea to approach the homeowners association before you move in to see if there are any options for you before you wind up signing the papers. If there is no way for you to get outdoor gardening space and this is important to you, it might be a good idea to purchase a condo in a more eco-friendly unit.

Most condominium units will be happy to negotiate with you when it comes to you having the green space that you need in order to be happy and healthy in your new home. If gardening is important to you there is absolutely no reason why living in a condo should inhibit your love of the great outdoors.
